Improving your home: comfort and health for your family
Our mission is to make home energy upgrades faster, more affordable, and less disruptive, so the process is simple and stress-free for you and your family.
This pioneering initiative is the beginning of something exciting and transformative in your area, brought to you by Thames Freeport in partnership with your local council London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, delivered by a consortium of delivery partners.
How it works
We’re working with social landlords to improve local homes – making them more comfortable and energy-efficient. Your landlord pays for these improvements.
You might hear this called ‘retrofit’ or ‘home energy upgrades’. It means improvements that reduce a home’s energy use or help it generate its own clean energy, like solar panels.
Examples
- Adding insulation for cosier winters and cooler summers
- Improving ventilation and air quality
- Updating windows or doors
- Installing solar panels or a heat pump
Real benefits for you
Cleaner, fresher air with less damp and mould
More affordable, stable energy bills that protect you from price rises
Warmer in winter, cooler in summer
Residents' experiences
Local homes are already benefiting
As part of the Thames Freeport programme, an initiative called Transform-ER is working with local housing providers to upgrade homes.
One trial home is currently being improved with the options below. The goal is to make improvements with you, not to you – creating homes that look great, feel comfortable and are affordable to run.
Solar panels to generate electricity
A battery to store that energy
Wall insulation panels
A new fresh-air system
